WEBSITE

The Spurs are a team of HSU’s leaders, and active students, who seek to strengthen their walk with Christ through team fellowship while at Hardin-Simmons University.

The nationally-ranked Spurs Dance Team is a Pom Squad that performs at all HSU football, basketball games, and is a vital part of HSU life. In addition to being known for being a performance pom squad, the team performs in various events and avenues allowing them to showcase their varied types of dance talents; jazz, tap, hip hop, and contemporary. The Spurs perform at over 50 different events and athletic games each year on campus with a new and exciting dance at each appearance. They also perform in HSU’s All-School SING, a campus-wide talent show.

The Spurs traveled to Denton in March of 2019 to represent Hardin-Simmons at the ADTS National Collegiate Competition. The team increased their score 18 points over their 2017 performance taking their score to the Division I level and earning them third runners-up in the Jazz Division II category. This is the seventh time in the Spurs history that the team has earned a national rating. In 2017, the Spurs scored in the Division II level which earned them third national runner-up rating in the Dance Division II category, and national runner-up in the Academic Division II category. In 2015, the Spurs earned a national runner-up rating in the Division II category. In 2001 they claimed 2nd place, in 2004 national champion runner-up, and in 2010 academic national champion and 2nd place.

The Spurs are blessed to be a part of the HSU and Abilene community. The team is active in volunteering their time and efforts where needed and are honored to be ambassadors for Hardin-Simmons University for 24 years.
